Dr. Saumar Jyoti Baruah

Dr. Saumar Jyoti Baruah was born in Titabor, Assam. He did his schooling at St. Edmund's in Shillong and passed the ISCE from Cambridge University in 1970. Dr. Baruah graduated from Gauhati Medical College with the MBBS degree in 1976, and also completed his Masters in General Surgery (MS) from the same institution in 1981. He went on to study and train at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, for the postdoctoral MCh (Urology) degree, which he was awarded in 1988.

Dr. Saumar Jyoti Baruah currently works as Professor & HOD, Department of Urology, Gauhati Medical College & Hospital in Guwahati. Dr. Baruah also functions as a Senior Consultant Urologist to other hospitals in Guwahati, including Wintrobe Hospital and NEMCARE Hospital, and has his private clinic in the Ulubari neighbourhood of the city.

Dr. Baruah was awarded the WHO Fellowship in Paediatric Urology in 1997, and was an Observer at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and at CS Mott Children's Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is an active participant in regional and national associations connected with Urology, and serves as President of the Assam Urological Society. Dr. Baruah is a State Trainer in "No Scalpel Vasectomy" (NSV) - a technique by which vasectomy is performed via a small puncture in the scrotum, without any other incisions or stitches required.
